NEW SALEM (AP) – State police have arrested a man on charges he robbed a small Southwestern Pennsylvania market and shot the owner’s friend in the leg in the process.

Troopers say 24-year-old Robert Gene Miller of Uniontown was arrested late Tuesday. He remains jailed pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 21.

Police say Miller entered Footedale Market in German Township about 8:50 p.m. Monday and took an undetermined amount of money from the cash register while threatening two employees.

During the robbery, 37-year-old James Fisher Jr. emerged from the owner’s apartment in the rear of the store. Police say that’s when Miller shot Fisher in the leg before Miller ran away from the store.

Police say the victims have known Miller for years and identified him as the suspect.
