ELLWOOD CITY (AP) – A school bus driver has been suspended while state police and the bus company investigate an incident in which an 8-year-old girl was dragged for a block when her backpack got caught in the vehicles door.

Ellwood City school superintendent Frank Aloi said the girl returned to class Friday and was not seriously injured in the incident Wednesday about 3:45 p.m.

The Associated Press is not reporting the 46-year-old bus driver’s name because she’s not been cited in connection with the incident.

Ellwood City Transit manager Joshua Coonfare said the driver has been suspended during the investigation.

Aloi said the girl was dragged about a block, to the next stop, before anyone realized what happened.

The girl was treated at the scene by paramedics, and not taken to a hospital.
