PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Philadelphia’s police commissioner says seven former narcotics officers have been pulled from those duties – including one who is already in custody – as part of an ongoing corruption probe involving the department’s Internal Affairs unit, the FBI and federal prosecutors.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1dEIrys ) reports Commissioner Charles Ramsey confirmed the investigation at a news conference Friday on another matter. Ramsey’s comments are the first time the city has publicly acknowledged the investigation. The U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to refuse to confirm or deny the investigation.
A department spokeswoman says six of the officers who have been reassigned to desk duty have also been made to surrender their weapons.
Ramsey says the seventh officer, the one in custody, has been charged after he was recorded him bragging about how easy it was to rob drug dealers.
