HEMPFIELD (AP) – Police said a Pennsylvania trooper fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect shortly after a woman was fatally stabbed at an apartment complex.

Police said 41-year-old Rodney Golden of Greensburg was shot after he lunged at the trooper with a knife and ignored their commands on Sunday.

Police believe he had slit the throat of 56-year-old resident Anita Sobel at Hempfield Towers, an apartment complex for seniors and the disabled in Westmoreland County.

Authorities say Golden and Sobel were in some type of relationship.

State police did not identify the trooper involved in the shooting. They say they tried unsuccessfully to subdue Golden with Tasers.
