GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — State police were investigating the fatal shooting of a man at a friend’s home in southwestern Pennsylvania as a suspicious death.

The Westmoreland County coroner’s office says 27-year-old Fidel Velez, of Southwest Greensburg, died at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg about 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.

The coroner did not rule on the manner of death — accident, homicide or suicide — while troopers from the Greensburg barracks continued to investigate.

Velez was found shot in the chest at a friend’s home in Hempfield Township about 12:45 a.m.

State police spokesman Trooper Steve Limani says police were investigating it as a “suspicious death.”

No suspects were immediately identified or charged by police. Investigators didn’t offer details on the kind of gun involved, who owned it, or how it was Velez was shot with the weapon.
