Jack’s Recycling of Mt. Morris, a company specializing in auto and scrap recycling since 1962, was acquired by Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman based in Owego, N.Y.

This deal comes on the heels of acquisitions of the assets of additional yards in Albany as well as Hornell, marking the third acquisition this month for the company. The all-cash transaction will close in approximately 30 days.

“This is a great strategic move for expanding our reach throughout the Northeast, especially with our two new shredders being built in Albany, N.Y., and in New Castle. We do not yet have a location in this region of the Northeast so this acquisition is filling a great need to serve Mt. Morris and the surrounding regions,” said Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman.

Jack’s Recycling at 226 Mt. Morris Road in Mt. Morris, currently has 11 employees.

“We have worked hard to become the scrap leader within a 60-mile radius around Mt. Morris,” said Rick Smith, former owner of Jack’s Recycling.

“It was very important to us to find a suitable company that can continue to grow this facility and serve our area even better.”

“We have looked at a number of acquisition partners and Upstate Shredding is the only one that truly understands and has the work ethic to ensure the continued success of this yard and take it to the next level. We are excited to have the leadership and expertise that Adam Weitsman and Upstate Shredding bring to the table and are looking forward to the transition to Ben Weitsman of Mt. Morris,” Smith said.

Working toward its goal of 50 yards, Mt. Morris marks the 17th location for Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman. Over the last few years, Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman has grown aggressively and profitably, more than doubling its geographic market reach over the past couple of years. Recent acquisitions include the assets of Hornell Waste Material in Hornell, N.Y. and Valley Recycling in Allegany, N.Y. The company has recently been recognized as one of the top scrap recycling companies in the world by Platts, AMM, Recycling Today, and Waste & Recycling News.
