As part of the ongoing Washington County property reassessment, residential data collectors plan to be out and about Monday in South Strabane and Chartiers townships.
Additional data collectors were added to the Tyler Technologies staff, which will enable crews to work in two townships simultaneously.
Robert Neil, Washington County’s project manager for the reassessment, said Thursday that data collection in North Strabane Township should be completed within two weeks. Commercial data collection, begun last fall, continues in Washington.
In another matter related to the reassessment, county commissioners on Thursday approved about $12,000 for county Chief Assessor Brad Boni’s travel, enrollment and attendance at a course of study offered by the International Association of Assessing Officers.
Certification by this organization will allow him to be qualified as an expert in court to defend the county’s position in general property assessment appeals.
The $12,000 is to be paid from the recorder of deeds office’s record-improvement fund.
Boni said the course includes seminars offered in the Mid-Atlantic states and Ohio and hands-on appraisal projects culminating in an eight-hour examination.
Boni also is presenting an hour-long talk Friday at the Washington County Winter Bench-Bar Conference at Southpointe on issues related to the mechanics of tax sales and Clean-and-Green property.
The commissioners also approved other property tax-related matters, including the use of Clean-and-Green rollback taxes to finance $21,207 in easement purchases, as recommended by Controller Michael Namie.
The commissioners, at the request of Washington County Planning Commission, also authorized approval to solicit proposals from land surveyors for the Farmland Preservation Program application process.
