PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities say a western Pennsylvania man led them on a chase in a stolen car, put his hands up in an apparent sign of surrender, and then slammed into police cruisers formed into a barricade to stop him.

23-year-old Christopher Shaffer, of West Mifflin, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of resisting arrest and related charges after he allegedly led police on a chase from Munhall to West Homestead Friday.

It was unclear if he had an attorney.

Three police cruisers were damaged, but none of the officers were hurt. Munhall police Chief Pat Campbell says that officers shot the tires of the stolen Honda Civic and that it came to a stop next to the West Homestead police station.
