YORK (AP) – A central Pennsylvania teenager has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the shooting death of another teen.
York County Judge Richard Renn on Monday said 18-year-old Jacquez Brown needed a long sentence because the teen “has to be segregated from society, for society’s protection … for a significant period of time.”
A jury convicted Brown in November of first-degree murder in the July 2011 slaying of 19-year-old Anthony Wasilewski.
Police said Brown, then 15, shot the victim outside his home following an argument over a stolen cellphone. Authorities said Brown then forced his way into the home of an acquaintance, leading to a brief standoff.
Prosecutors said Wasilewski was shot repeatedly in the back as he lay on the sidewalk.
