The Monessen-based Mon Valley Progress Council will receive a $50,000 state grant to continue its mission to revitalize disadvantaged industrial and commercial areas.
The money from the state’s Keystone Communities program will help promote area’s designated as Enterprise Zones that have the potential to attract jobs, state Sen. Tim Solobay, D-Canonsburg, announced Tuesday.
“Continuing the momentum of job creation in the region is still a main priority,” Solobay said. “These grants have been used across the state to spark outside investment and grow employment.”
He said Enterprise Zones have brought an investment of nearly $65 million and 505 new jobs to the area.
The participating zone communities include: Brownsville and Belle Vernon in Fayette County; California, Charleroi, Donora, North Charleroi, Speers and Monongahela in Washington County; and Monessen in Westmoreland County.
“The Mon Valley Progress Council has done a great job so far in sustaining economic growth in the region,” Solobay said. “By making critical investments in key areas, state economic development officials can help move projects that are already in the works.”
