PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police say a suspect has stabbed a K-9 officer while trying to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants for probation violations and failing to register as a sex offender.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for 21-year-old John Lewis Rush, who was arrested Tuesday night.
Police say Rush was arrested about 10:30 p.m., or about 40 minutes after he fought with an Allegheny County sheriff’s deputy who tried to arrest him. Police say Rush got away from the deputy even after the officer used a stun gun.
Police later found Rush when someone called 911 to report a suspicious person lurking near a building.
Police apprehended Rush, but not before they say he stabbed the dog in the back. The animal was being treated by a veterinarian.
Two human officers suffered leg and arm injuries.
