DONORA – A Donora man has been arrested on charges he stole brass fire prevention equipment Tuesday from an apartment tower operated by the Washington County Housing Authority.

Borough police charged James A. Piskopus, 47, of 1320 Marelda Ave., with theft and receiving stolen property in the form of nine pieces of brass worth $585 removed from the Donora high-rise, court records show.

Police received a call about 10 p.m. Tuesday from the building’s head of maintenance reporting the thefts from the tower at 685 Meldon Ave., the affidavit indicates.

The next day the equipment was recovered from the Monongahela Iron & Metal scrap yard in Monongahela, a business that also kept a record of receipt for the items, showing they had been purchased from Piskopus.

He is in Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond set Wednesday by District Judge Mark Wilson.
