NEMACOLIN – A Nemacolin man faces an escape charge stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident June 17 at 77 Haig Lane in Nemacolin.

Cumberland Township police Chief Craig Miller and Detective Tony Gismondi took Robert William Treece, 43, into custody for contempt of a no contact protection from abuse order filed by his wife, Sarah, in 2011.

While awaiting arraignment, Treece allegedly told Miller he consumed 18 to 20 Norotin tablets and five to six Seroquel, drugs usually prescribed to treat mental disorders, and was not feeling well. EMS Southwest personnel took Treece to Southwest Regional Medical Center, where a physician advised police he would be admitted on a 12-hour observation and then transferred to the mental health floor. Miller said they were to be advised prior to Treece’s release but learned he walked out of the facility shortly after 3 p.m. on June 17 wearing a hospital gown, according to the complaint.

Prior to his arrest for the domestic incident June 17, Treece and his wife argued and Treece allegedly struck her in the back of the head, according to the criminal complaint. She refused medical treatment.

Treece moved in with his wife June 4, an apparent violation of the 2011 PFA order. But Sarah Treece told police she allowed him to move in as long as he didn’t hit her.

Treece was taken into custody June 20 and arraigned before Greene County Judge William Nalitz three days later.

A preliminary hearing for the escape and flight to avoid apprehension will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 before Watson.
