Father, son want statements tossed in Pa. slaying

UNIONTOWN (AP) – A father and son charged in the stabbing death of a man in Southwestern Pennsylvania are asking a judge to bar prosecutors from using statements they allegedly made to police.
Forty-two-year-old Robert Daniels Jr. and 18-year-old Robert Daniels III are charged in Fayette County in the June 2011 stabbing death of 56-year-old David Gida following a party in the victim’s apartment in Connellsville, about 55 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reports that the younger defendant’s attorney on Tuesday challenged the qualifications of a psychiatrist who evaluated his teenage client’s capacity to waive his right against self-incrimination.
The older man’s attorney questioned whether his client was allowed to speak with an attorney after saying he wanted to do so and before he talked about the crime.
