WAYNESBURG – A forum for distance runners will be held July 26 at the Goodwin Performing Arts Center at Waynesburg University.

This free forum is geared to all levels of runners from high school to master’s level, said Chris Hardie, Waynesburg University’s head cross country coach. High school coaches and runners will find it particularly helpful to prepare for the fall season, he said.

Those interested will be able to participate in the 5K Rain Day race in Waynesburg open to all runners in the morning. Details and forms for the 9:30 a.m. 5K race are available on the Greene County Habitat for Humanity website at www.greenecountyhabitat.net. Shower facilities will be available to forum participants.

The forum will begin at noon and run to about 4:30 p.m. The schedule will include:

• High school training; pre-season training, instructed by Jennifer McMichael of Ringgold High School, noon to 1 p.m.

• “Front Runner” training, instructed by Waynesburg University staff, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

• How to select the right shoe, instructed by Morgantown Running, 1:45 to 2:10 p.m.

• Coaching: how to motivate student athletes, instructed by Hardie, 2009 NCAA Mideast Track assistant coach of the year; coached three All-Americans and 12 NCAA national qualifiers, 2:10 to 3:10 p.m.

• Break, during which there will be demonstrations on dynamic running drills, 3:10 to 3:20 p.m.

• Running to glorify God, instructed by the Rev. John Dorean of Jefferson Baptist Church and Rev. Mike Hasselbring of the First Christian Church. 3:20 to 4:05 p.m.

• “Peaking” for the big race, instructed by Waynesburg University staff, 4:05 to 4:30 p.m.

Those who plan to participate in the forum are asked to register by emailing Hardie at chardie@waynesburg.edu.
