PHILADELPHIA – Forecasters have confirmed that at least two tornadoes hit different parts of Pennsylvania as storms rolled across the commonwealth.
The National Weather Service said a tornado packing maximum winds estimated at 90 mph touched down Tuesday afternoon near the town of Hoagland in northwestern Pennsylvania’s Mercer County, traveling 2½ miles.
Forecasters said another tornado touched down Tuesday evening near New Albany in Bradford County in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Daily Review reported that a trained spotter said the twister destroyed a mobile home and a barn.
Meanwhile, utility crews have been working to restore service to tens of thousands of Pennsylvania customers left without power. Companies report more than 81,500 homes and businesses without power in the commonwealth Wednesday afternoon, including almost 43,000 in the five-county Philadelphia area.
