A 95-year-old man died Sunday night when his tractor rolled down a hillside while he was cutting grass on his Jefferson Township property.

Louis Kaposy of Meadowcroft Road left his home about 3 p.m. to cut the grass, but a neighbor noticed he still hadn’t returned home several hours later, Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said.

The neighbor began searching for Kaposy and found him about 7 p.m., Warco said. Kaposy’s tractor was found down a hillside near 65 Meadowcroft Road, Warco said.

Kaposy was pinned under the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene at 9:40 p.m., police said. The cause and manner of his death are pending an autopsy.

State police are investigating the incident. They were assisted at the scene by Avella volunteer firefighters.
