Heroin, money seized during city drug case
Washington police were in possession of two cellphones belonging to a pair of drug suspects early Saturday, and they say they were able to watch as new text messages arrived with instructions about meeting places for deals, including the desired quantities and prices.
The suspects then led police to their North Franklin Township hotel room, where officers arrested a Pittsburgh man on drug and related charges, police said.
Police said Deandre Farrington, 21, of Pittsburgh, answered the door of the room at Days Inn, 1370 West Chestnut St., and then ran out onto the second-floor balcony and jumped off, only to be quickly apprehended about 3:10 a.m.
Police said they also seized 10 stamp bags of heroin from the room.
Farrington is charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, receiving stolen property and possession of a handgun that had been stolen from Derick L. Walker of Aliquippa, court records state. He is in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set by District Justice Curtis Thompson.
The investigation began when police pulled over a vehicle that reportedly didn’t come to a halt at a stop sign in the 400 block of Locust Avenue about 12:10 a.m. Saturday. The occupants of the vehicle, a Pittsburgh man and another from McKeesport, were briefly detained after police said investigators found 10 stamp bags of heroin and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. Police said they also seized $2,346.
After Farrington’s arrest, the first two suspects were released. They were informed they would face drug charges, which will be sent by summons.
