WAYNESBURG – An exhibition of lamb live carcass will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 4 in the livestock barn at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

This exhibition is being done by the 4-H Sheep Breeding Club, and will be judged by Ben Williamson of Penn State Animal Science Department. Judging will first be done on the hoof and then each lamb will have the loin area ultra-sounded for size. Scores will be calculated by the judge and announced the evening of Aug. 6.

Interviews for Wool Queen will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 4. Any contestant should have done a sheep project for the year, own sheep, or be from a sheep producing family, and be between the ages of 16 and 22 years old. All interested contestants must notify Janet Mawhinney by Aug. 1 at 724-966-2577 or at jbmmmd@windstream.net. Contestants should have knowledge of wool and lamb from the barn to the kitchen.

Lead Line competition for shepherdesses and shepherds also will be held Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Classes will be Tiny Tots, ages 3 to 7 years; Juniors, ages 8 to 3 years; and seniors, ages 14 to 19 years.

Garments must contain at least 60 percent wool. Young ladies will lead a yearling ewe or ewe lamb, and young men will lead a yearling ram, ram lamb or weather lamb. Sheep are to be fitted for show, trained to lead without handling, and be a good representative of their breed.

Decorations on the sheep are encouraged. A one-page typed commentary with the contestants name, age, address, parents names, description of outfit and ownership of the sheep must be submitted to Janet Mawhinney by Aug. 1.
