CARMICHAELS – Cumberland Township Police Department reported an additional daytime burglary in the Carmichaels area, bringing the total number of break-ins reported since July 6 to four. The latest burglary took place July 14 at 595 Ceylon Road.
Previous burglaries occurred July 6, 8 and 11 within a mile of each other, on Old Waynesburg Road, Maple Street and Ceylon Road.
State police also reported a daytime burglary from July 12 on Clarksville Road.
Cumberland Township Police Chief Craig Miller urged residents to take extra precautions in securing doors, windows, garage doors and vehicles. Homeowners also should be on the lookout for suspicious behavior, such as someone knocking on multiple doors, walking close to homes or spending extended periods of time in an area with no apparent legitimate purpose.
“We have had a lot of tips of suspicious persons since the alert ran in the newspaper this week,” Miller said, noting the department continues to seek those with video surveillance from the areas of the burglaries.
Residents are advised to make note of specific details, including the sex and race of suspicious persons, the type of clothing they are wearing and a description of their vehicles.
Homeowners should immediately report any suspicious persons or activity in their area to their local police department by calling 911.
It is helpful, police said, for homeowners to have photographs and documentation of their jewelry, firearms and other valuables, including serial numbers.
Home safety alarms and surveillance cameras should be turned on and all valuables secured when a homeowner leaves, police said.
Anyone who has security camera footage from the areas the burglaries took place, would like to report a tip of suspicious activity, or with information regarding these burglaries may call the nonemergency line for Cumberland Township Police at 724-966-8296. The nonemergency number for state police in Waynesburg is 724-627-6151.
