Robinson Township officials approved a conditional-use application for a Marcellus Shale freshwater tank pad after a public hearing on the topic was held Monday.
The board voted 2-0-1 to approve the application from Range Resources, pending state Department of Environmental Protection approval of the permit. Chairman Rodger Kendall and Vice Chairman Steve Duran voted in favor, and Supervisor Mark Brositz was absent.
Kendall formally recused himself because he is a leaseholder for one of the wells that will be serviced by the tank pad. But because there would not otherwise be a quorom, Kendall cast his vote in favor of the project.
No residents spoke either in favor of or in opposition to the tank pad.
The above-ground tanks, which will be used to store freshwater to assist in the completion of nearby wells, will be located on isolated property owned by Imperial Land Corp. east of Quicksilver Road.
The tank pad location was moved slightly due to new information that revealed the turnpike would come through Range’s original proposed location.
The application for the tank pad was initially submitted to Robinson Township Jan. 7, 2013. Supervisors erred in delaying a vote on that application and others, Washington County Judge John DiSalle ruled in May after Range sued the township.
Supervisors approved a settlement proposal from Range last month, agreeing not to appeal that ruling and to allow Range to move forward with the development of the Parees and Kendall well sites.
