‘An impressive line-up’

WAYNESBURG – The1980s-style band Simon Sez will headline the entertainment for Tuesday’s Rain Day festival in Waynesburg.

The band, which will take the Rain Day stage at 7:30 p.m., is from Cumberland, Md.

“This band doesn’t just play a few ’80s tunes, Simon Sez pays homage to the bands and hits that defined that era. Simon Sez is an impressive line-up of local musicians who have used their time and talent to replicate some of the biggest hits from the MTV era,” said a band biography included on the band’s web site.

The group consists of Jim Corley, vocals; Ray Wagner, keyboards, guitar and “Keytar;” Tim Wilhelm, lead guitar; Jim Robinette, bass; and John Robinette, drums. Lighting, lasers and video production is handled by Dave Mawhinney of Sight & Sound Productions.

“Simon Sez will take you back in time, when the music was great, when times weren’t so stressful, and, when gas was under a buck a gallon,” the site said.

Entertainment and activities will be offered throughout the day, sponsored by Noble Energy, EQT and First Energy Foundation.

The festival, organized by the Waynesburg Special Events Commission, will take place on High Street with entertainment beginning at noon.

The event list includes:

• 7 to 10 a.m. – Buckwheat pancake breakfast, St. Ann Church

• Noon – Umbrella contest

• 12:15 p.m. – Cheryl Ann Hawk, acoustic music

• 1 p.m. – Ginny McClelland dancers

• 1:30 p.m. – Crimson, rock music

• 2 p.m. – Barbara Mochetta Dancers

• 2 p.m. – Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales, play production

• 2:30 p.m. – Soldiers and Sons, Christian music

• 3 p.m. – Miss Greene County winners

• 3:30 p.m. – Rock Bottom, rock music

• 4 p.m. – Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales, play production

• 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Texaco Country Showdown

• 6 p.m. – Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales, play production

• 6:15 p.m. – Eulah May, comedy skit

• 6:30 p.m. – Rain Day contestants

• 7 p.m. – Company K Salute, moment of silence

• 7 p.m. – Awards and Baby Rain Day results

• 7:30 p.m. – Simon Sez

Children’s activities, including Hula Hoop contests, races, jump rope contests and water balloon toss, will take place on the courthouse lawn from noon to 6 p.m., organized by Waynesburg’s Central Park camp counselors. A barnyard petting zoo also will be on the courthouse lawn from 1 to 6 p.m.
