A ceremony to rename the Route 79 interchange at Mt. Morris as the Deputy Sgt. Michael Todd May Interchange will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. just west of the Mt. Morris exit, adjacent to the branch office of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County, 101 Locust Ave. Extension.

May, 41, was a Monongahela County, West Virginia Sheriff’s Deputy killed in the line of duty Feb. 18, 2012, as a result of his police vehicle being struck by a suspect vehicle driven by Jerod Green, 37 of Oklahoma. Green was found guilty by jury in January 2013 of murder in the third degree, homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle in an emergency response area, and fleeing or eluding a police officer while DUI and crossing a state line in May’s death.

The dedication is the result of legislation introduced by state Sen. Tim Solobay and state Rep. Pam Snyder.

The public is invited to a unique worship service at 5 p.m. Sunday in the dome building, located near the rabbit exhibits at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The event, complete with bagpipes, is held to kick off the Greene County Fair. The service will be led by the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Wilson. The pipe players, along with keyboardist, Nelson Fox, will be under the direction of song leader, Roland “Rollie” Daniels, a member of the Greene County Farm Bureau.

The First United Methodist Church, located at Waynesburg at 112 N. Richhill St., will hold a celebration for the 2nd anniversary of the founding of Erin’s Inside Out Café at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the church sanctuary. The café is an outreach ministry providing coffee, community, conversation and a picnic meal to church neighbors. It was established in 2012 following the death of church youth and Missions director, Erin Jedlowski, following a one-vehicle accident while traveling to Louisiana on a mission trip. All are invited to attend the café which will feature performances by RLW Quartet and Ambassadors for Christ. The event is free with a love offering being taken.

The Headlee, Headley and Whitlach family reunion will be held Aug. 9 starting at 4 p.m. at the Mason-Dixon Historical Park in Core, W.Va. The reunion will take place at the top pavilion. Family members are asked to bring a covered dish to share. The meat will be provided.
