An Allegheny County man faces charges for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter while picking her up at First Niagara Pavilion earlier this month.
Kevin Weis, 43, of Gibsonia, was charged by Hanover Township police with simple assault and endangering the welfare of children stemming from the alleged July 15 incident. Police were contacted by the girl’s mother last week.
Weis and the girl’s mother picked up the alleged victim and her friends after the Vans Warped Tour. The two were reportedly two hours late picking up the girl and her friends.
The girl told police that Weis, who appeared intoxicated, was verbally abusive to her and had thrown her cellphone out of the vehicle while it was moving on Route 22. The girl’s mother, who was driving, stopped the car so she could pick up the phone.
While out of the vehicle, the girl allegedly hit Weis in the face. He then reportedly tackled her to the ground and started choking her. A friend who was with the alleged victim told police Weis was calling her names. He did not see the altercation but saw the bruising on the girl when they returned home. Another friend of the alleged victim told police she had bruising around her neck when she got back into the car. She then reportedly whispered to her friend Weis tried to kill her. When the friend asked the girl’s mother if she was going to call police, she reportedly answered that she would call later.
The girl and her mother provided police with photographs that show bruising on her neck and right leg. When the alleged assault was reported about a week after the incident, the bruises started to fade, police said.
After dropping off her friends and apologizing to them, Weis reportedly told the girl the incident was her fault.
The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Gary Havelka. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled later.
