WINDBER (AP) – Authorities say a Western Pennsylvania man has been arrested in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, which the child survived.

State police in Somerset County said police were called to the couple’s Windber apartment shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday and found that 23-year-old Caressa Kovalcik had been shot.

Authorities said she was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where the baby was delivered by C-section and taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The woman was later pronounced dead. Children’s Hospital declined to release information about the infant’s condition.

Police said they arrested 25-year-old Denver Blough, who also lived in the apartment along with the couple’s 11-month-old son. Blough was charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangering. He is being held without bail.
