1 dead, 1 injured in I-70 wreck
A six-year-old boy was killed when he was ejected from a vehicle on Interstate 70 in Buffalo Township Wednesday evening.
Dominic Rush of West Finley Road, West Finley, was an occupant of an SUV traveling westbound on I-70, according to Washington County Coroner Tim Warco. Crystal Lashae Rush, 23, also of West Finley, lost control of the vehicle just east of the Taylorstown exit about 7:30 p.m. Warco said the SUV left the passing lane and traveled 342 feet in the medial before rolling multiple times and landing on its roof.
Warco said the boy was ejected and pinned under the vehicle. Witnesses lifted the vehicle to free him. Dominic Rush was pronounced dead at 8:24 p.m. at the scene by Warco. The coroner ruled his death, which was caused by multiple injuries, accidental.
State police said Crystal Rush, who also was ejected from the SUV, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Neither was wearing a seat belt.
Assisting were North Franklin, Taylorstown and Claysville fire departments, Donegal Police Department and Ambulance and Chair Service.
By 9:30 p.m., police opened one lane of traffic on both sides of the highway. Traffic moved slowly as fire and police officials directed vehicles past the scene.
State police are continuing to investigate the accident.
