Burgettstown High School graduating 85
Burgettstown High School will graduate 85 seniors at its commencement 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Niagara Pavilion. Valedictorian is Maggie Stiffler, and salutatorian is Amanda Bernola. Both students will be speaking at the commencement.
Stiffler is a daughter of Dave and Lisa Stiffler of Burgettstown.
Stiffler received the Amelia Earhart Award, Lions Award, Trib Total Media Outstanding Young Citizen Award and Weirton (W.Va.) Elks Team of the Month. She served as president of student council, member of National Honor Society, Leadership Council, Gifted Program and SWAL. She tutors, babysits and volunteers as a Jefferson Township firefighter.
Stiffler participated in musicals throughout her high school career and starred in two school productions.
She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in mathematical biology.
Bernola is a daughter of Rick and Teresa Bernola of Burgettstown.
Bernola achieved the Math Award, Academic Letter of Honor, Academic Certificate of Honor and Gold President’s Award for Educational Excellence and was a Eugene Nell Petrucci Fund Scholarship recipient and Mary Jeanne Hanna Scholarship recipient. She served as the senior class secretary; member of National Honor Society, biology club, physics club and the float committee. She volunteered as a student volleyball coach and Christmas church decorator.
Bernola also earned second team all-star and most valuable player on the volleyball team and U.S. Army Reserve and National Scholar Athlete awards.
She plans to attend St.Vincent College to pursue of a degree in mathematics.
