Claysville truck stop closes
A bankruptcy liquidation put a stop to Veteran’s Truck Stop.
This longtime oasis for truckers, off the Claysville exit of Interstate 70, shut down May 22, according to a local resident who requested anonymity. So did the accompanying store and small pizza shop at 24 Donegal Ave., which is also Route 231 South.
The Huddle House restaurant, which leases space on the property, is still open.
Five Rivers Petroleum LLC, which operated the truck stop, initially filed for restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy and recently had that converted to a Chapter 7 liquidation. S&V Properties, which owns the property, also filed for bankruptcy, said an attorney representing Community Bank, the secured creditor.
There are large, handmade signs on the property proclaiming “Truck Stop Closed No Fuel No Truck Turnaround” and “Huddle House Open.” The truck stop will be shut down until someone purchases the property and reopens it, the attorney said.
This truck stop existed for about a half-century under several names, including Petro and Union 76, and survived a serious fire more than a decade ago. For years, the stop may have been the largest employer in the immediate Claysville area.
