Trinity releases terms of separation agreement with superintendent
Trinity Area School District Superintendent Paul Kasunich will receive $153,793 in severance pay as part of a separation agreement he reached with the school district last week.
The Observer-Reporter filed a right-to-know request with the district to obtain the details. The amount, which is the equivalent of his 2014-15 salary, will be paid in two installments of $76,896, July 1 and Jan. 1, 2015.
On or before May 1, 2015, Kasunich will be paid $3,700 for 2014-15 vacation, personal and sick days.
In addition, the school district will provide health insurance and eye and dental coverage, which will end before June 30, 2015 if Kasunich accepts a job that offers benefits. He has the option of extending his health insurance, eye and dental coverage through Dec. 31 in lieu of the $3,700 payment for the vacation, personal and sick days.
Also, Kasunich will receive a reimbursement of up to $1,732 for a one-year term life insurance policy.
Kasunich was suspended with pay by the school district following his arrest in Ohio Township, Allegheny County, Feb. 2 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was admitted to the state’s Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program May 16. First-time offenders who successfully complete the 12-month probationary ARD program can have charges against them dismissed and their records expunged.
At a meeting May 28, the school board voted to accept Kasunich’s resignation and the separation agreement. Through June 30, when he steps down from his post, Kasunich will receive $20,086.37 for his regular salary, payment for unused and accrued vacation, personal and sick days, and reimbursement for outstanding expenses.
