PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office says a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot himself at the agency’s Pittsburgh field office.
Pittsburgh police and the Federal Protective Service — an agency that polices federal buildings — were also investigating the Thursday shooting of 43-year-old James McConaughy, of Beaver Falls.
ICE spokeswoman Nicole Navas says investigators don’t suspect foul play.
The shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. at the Department of Homeland Security building near the city’s South Side. The immigration agency has offices within that building.
Pittsburgh police declined to comment beyond confirming the shooting, with a spokeswoman saying they were deferring to Federal Protective Service officials, who in turn deferred to the police.
An autopsy Friday showed McConaughy died of a self-inflicted head wound.
