PITTSBURGH (AP) — An incline that gives sightseers a panoramic view of Pittsburgh has reopened after being under repair for several days.

The Port Authority of Allegheny County says the Monongahela Incline went back into service around 8 p.m. Friday.

It had been closed since Tuesday after workers noticed abnormal wear on a safety cable during an inspection the night before. The cable has now been replaced.

While the incline was closed, shuttle buses took passengers from the upper station atop Mount Washington to the lower terminus near Station Square.

The incline also carries commuters from Mount Washington into the business district. It carries about 1,500 people on weekdays, and double that on Saturdays.

The Port Authority says it’s the oldest operating funicular railway in the U.S., having opened in 1870.
