For the second time this year, there has been a change in leadership of the Washington County Republican Party.
Jeff Foutz, interim party chairman, resigned from the post for personal reasons on Friday.
William Adams, first vice chairman, will be taking over as the acting chairman until elections are held in November, Foutz noted in an e-mail.
Foutz succeeded William Merrell, who on Feb. 28 announced that he plans to spend more time as a school director in Peters Township, where he is chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee.
The Republican chairmanship is a two-year term, although the precinct-level county committee members serve four-year terms.
Foutz fell short in a bid last month for an additional term on the Republican State Committee representing Washington County, but he was elected to the county GOP committee from South Strabane Township’s fourth precinct.
