Washington Amateur Communications is sponsoring Field Day, a finale to Amateur Radio Week from noon June 28 until noon June 29.

The public is invited to attend and participate in a demonstration on the functioning of amateur radio. This form of radio proves critical during emergency weather conditions, when cellphone and Internet reception is unavailable.

The radio station functions on solar power provided by a large solar energy trailer.

Radio operators, or “hams”, will host the presentations and provide information on obtaining FCC radio licenses. Hams will also feature the latest radio system capabilities.

The event will be held at the pavilion behind South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department ,1696 E. Maiden St., Washington.
