BEVANS CITY, Pa. (AP) — State police say one of two drivers killed in a head-on crash on a rural western Pennsylvania highway may have been suicidal and purposely caused the wreck.
Police say it appears 38-year-old Michael Reid, of Butler, was speeding when he drove into the oncoming lane and hit a Jeep Cherokee driven by 36-year-old Hannah Swigart, a married mother of three who was also killed about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Trooper Dan Kesten, a spokesman for the Butler police barracks, says police have learned that Reid had argued and left his ex-girlfriend’s home shortly before the crash and made comments suggesting he might harm himself.
The crash happened on Route 68 in Forward Township, about 25 miles north of Pittsburgh.
Police were also attempting to determine if Reid was intoxicated at the time.
