WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly hitting his wife and a neighbor Monday in the Richhill Street apartment building where they reside.

According to a criminal complaint, Cody A. Reed, 29, of 53 S. Richhill St., became angry when he arrived home and began hitting his wife, Elizabeth Tustin, and his downstairs neighbor, Joshua Hysell.

Police said Reed struck his wife in the face causing swelling, bruising and a bloody nose. He allegedly hit Hysell with an object in the head. Hysell needed staples and stitches to treat his injuries.

Waynesburg Borough Police Officer Lisa Sowden said Tustin told her Reed struck her several times. Tustin also had difficulty with her vision, according to the complaint.

Sowden said Reed told officers he was “pretty mad,” and had “hit and pushed” Hysell when he came home and then “got even madder and slapped her (Tustin) in the face.” Sowden said Reed told her “didn’t hit her (his wife) hard,” and he had “never hit a female before.”

Hysell told police Reed came home and began hitting him. According to the complaint, Reed told police he picked up a cereal bowl in the bedroom and hit Hysell with it.

Reed faces two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and two counts of harassment.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 2 before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lou Dayich. Reed is free on a $25,000 cash bond.
