Avella School Board recently adopted a 2014-15 district budget that includes a 2.12-mill tax increase.
The tax increase included in the $10.4 million budget equates to an extra $20 a year for the average homeowner in the district. This is the first tax increase for the district in the last three years, school board President Corey McConn said.
McConn said contributing factors include retirement obligations, salaries and benefits.
He said the district opted to forgo layoffs and cuts to programs. McConn said the district also will continue to donate to organizations in the area.
