Teen to be featured on hunting show
Baily King, 17, of Sherrills Ford, N.C., has Greene County roots that are generations deep. The son of Randy and Emily King, he started school at Graysville Elementary and learned to shoot on his grandfather Ray King’s farm near Oak Forest.
After relocating to North Carolina a decade ago, the family made a tradition of returning to the county for deer season and a reunion with friends and family, including “Pap” and grandmother, Helen King of East View.
While in Colorado to hunt elk with his dad last year, King’s excellent aim and his Remington .300 Win Mag rifle caught the eye of outfitters who organized the hunt. He was invited to be on an episode of Remington Country “Hunting Elk in Colorado” that will air Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on DirectTV’s Outdoor Channel 606.
At home in Sherrills Ford, King is active in church, an honor student, soon-to-be a senior at Bandys High School and is a first lieutenant in the Junior ROTC. His drill team has more than 1,000 hours of community service. This spring, Baily’s Junior ROTC squad took Best of the East, then went on to national competition in Louisville Ky., and took top honors in Armed Exhibition Platoon, along with other awards.
While visiting in June, King found another way to have fun in Greene County, racing his 250cc Yamaha dirt bike at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris.
