• Action: Several residents complained the township’s garbage collector, Waste Management, has missed several pick-up dates this winter. Board Chairman Andy Schrader said supervisors recently met with the company to raise concerns, and Solicitor John Smith sent the company a letter to put them on notice. Supervisors also voted to increase Waste Management’s recycling services to a bimonthly collection, which would pose no additional cost. These terms would last until the company’s contract is up at the end of 2014.
The board discussed hiring Supervisor Frank Ludwin as assistant road inspector to work with Gateway Engineers on this year’s road paving project. Vice Chairman Cindy Fisher said it would save taxpayers more than $13,000 if the board would hire Ludwin as opposed to a certified Gateway engineer. Some residents brought up Ludwin’s past experience as a road inspector and questioned his qualifications.
Smith, who anticipated a tie vote with Ludwin’s abstention, said it was his legal opinion that Ludwin could vote to break the tie. Supervisor Elizabeth Cowden asked for his opinion in writing, and the vote was tabled.
Supervisors discussed potentially revising township ordinances to impose a fine when snow is pushed or dumped onto roads.
The ordinance already exists, but it does not include a penalty provision. Supervisors would set the fine range, and the district judge would determine the penalty for each offender. The board set a tentative public hearing to be held 15 minutes prior to the April 7 regular meeting.
The board discussed bids received for cameras to record meetings for the township website.
Supervisors authorized Smart Solution Technologies to reevaluate the township’s microphones and provide a cost estimate for a camera system.
