WAYNESBURG – Franklin Township supervisors Monday approved a modification to the township’s Community Development Block Grant budget to allow the township to use previous years’ leftover funds to continue a water line extension on North Liberty Street.

Rob Kuchar, the township CDBG coordinator, told the supervisors that both the township’s 2011 and 2012 CDBG projects to extend the line on North Liberty had come in under budget.

The township has $39,554 left from 2011 and $93,498 from 2012. The supervisors approved the modification to allow the township to use those funds on the next phase of the North Liberty project.

The money will be combined with the township’s 2013 expected CDBG allocation of $105,600, to extend the water line about 2,500 feet north of the intersection of Purman Road where the line now ends.

The new line extension will serve about six homes.

Kuchar said his firm will begin the engineering work for the line and should be ready to advertise the project for bids in about a month and half. Work on the extension could be completed this summer, he said.
