A 32-year-old McMurray man was taken to Washington Hospital for a mental health evaluation after he reportedly was in a wooded area of North Strabane Township with a shotgun after reportedly threatening to harm himself.

Township police received a report early Tuesday afternoon of a man dressed in camouflage firing shots with a shotgun in the woods off South Johnson Road.

North Strabane police Sgt. David Richards said the man had hunted in that area in the past. He reportedly made a comment to a family member that he wanted to harm himself. Richards said family members were able to get the shotgun away from the man. A family member discharged all the shells after taking the gun away.
