PITTSBURGH (AP) – A winter storm system delivered frigid temperatures to much of Western Pennsylvania, but far less snow than was forecast.

The National Weather Service said virtually no snow is expected anywhere in the western part of the state, except for flurries that could drop another half inch of snow in Erie and Meadville, in the state’s most northwestern corner. Six to 10 inches of snow were forecasted for those areas, but reports of three to four inches were more common early Thursday.

Meanwhile, most of Southwestern Pennsylvania received only a light dusting of snow overnight, nowhere near the two to four inches expected to fall through Thursday morning.

Instead, skies were mostly clear, though temperatures hovered about 10 degrees in and around Pittsburgh Thursday morning, with lower single-digit temperatures farther north.
