The state Department of Transportation will hold a public plans display from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chartiers Township municipal building on proposed improvements at the intersection of Pike Street and Country Club Road.

The meeting will give the public an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project. Representatives from PennDOT will be available to answer questions and receive comments.

The project involves widening Pike Street and Country Club Road to provide turning lanes and improve the turning radius for trucks. The project will also replace both the existing traffic signal and the at-grade railroad crossing at the intersection. Although some initial work involving drainage, utility relocation, building demolition and replacement of the railroad crossing will occur this year, the majority of construction is anticipated to occur next year with all work anticipated to be completed by mid-July 2015.

About 625 feet of northbound Pike Street from near R.J. Corman Derailment Services facility to the Country Club Road intersection will be closed for approximately two and half months to allow for the reconstruction and widening of Pike Street. During this period, northbound Pike Street will be detoured while southbound Pike Street will be kept open.

The detour is tentatively anticipated to be in effect from April to mid-June 2015.

For additional information concerning this meeting, contact Barry V. Lyons, P.E., PennDOT’s project manager, at 724-439-7336 or James H. Flynn, project manager, Gannett Fleming, at 412-922-5575.
