A Canton Township man wanted by Canonsburg police for allegedly stalking his former girlfriend over a five-month period was taken into custody Friday by Washington police at Washington Hospital.

Raymond Reed Husman, 49, of 95 Charles St., is accused of stalking Anita Friend. Police Sgt. Al Coghill said the two had lived together, and the stalking began after they broke up.

Friend told Coghill in October that she believed Husman was contacting her through different methods after she obtained a protection-from-abuse order banning him from contact.

On Oct. 21, Friend said she received a FedEx package containing Husman’s medical reports, using her name and address as the sender. Friend told Coghill she believed he was using this as a ploy to gain sympathy.

The following month, Friend said she received a $500 check from Husman and a $30 gift certificate for a manicure. The items were placed on her car at her place of employment in Washington. She said she reviewed the surveillance tape where she works and saw him pull into the lot and put the items on her windshield. He also reportedly left another $500 check in her mail slot.

Friend told Coghill that, between the beginning of November and Dec. 20, he had flowers delivered to her seven times at her job, and often signed the card with a pet name she had for him.

Washington police also received a report of him calling her at work.

Friend also started getting calls and messages from a “doctor” who claimed to have been treating Husman. Friend gave Coghill 35 pages detailing messages from the “doctor” telling her Husman loved her and was looking forward to dancing at their wedding. The messages came from a prepaid cellphone.

The nurse for the doctor whose name was being used told Coghill that he does not have a cellphone with that number and did not send Friend any text messages. Friend received additional text messages from another prepaid cellphone, trying to evoke her sympathy.

Husman was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on a charge of stalking and released on his own recognizance with orders not to have contact with the alleged victim. However, he was jailed on a Washington County bench warrant. A preliminary hearing is set for March 26 before District Judge David Mark.
