Beaver County township’s ex-secretary charged in theft

AMBRIDGE, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania township has abolished its township secretary position now that a long-time employee has been removed from that post and charged with stealing $190,000 in public money.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Lyla Lynn Swan, who worked as Harmony Township’s secretary for about 30 years.
She’s being notified by mail of charges filed by detectives in the Beaver County district attorney’s office.
Investigators say Swan stole the money by pocketing cash payments that residents made to the government office since 2006. Investigators say they didn’t go back farther than that because of the statute of limitations.
Investigators say Swan acknowledged she knew at least some of the money was missing.
District Attorney Anthony Berosh says the investigation continues into where and how Swan spent the money.
