WAYNESBURG – It is time to exchange that cabin fever for boogie fever at the fourth annual Greene County Historical Society Dinner Dance this Saturday at the National Guard Readiness Center, 500 Evergreene Drive, Waynesburg.

The big band sound of the Beaver Bop Cats will once again provide guests with a trip down memory lane to the songs of Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and others.

“I am once again proud to say we are welcoming the Bop Cats back for a repeat performance in Greene County,” said Wayne Hart, an organizer of the event that serves as a fundraiser for the historical society. The 18-piece Bop Cats is comprised of full sections of sax, trombone, trumpet, rhythm and vocals that began 17-years ago in Beaver County.

Since its inception in 2011, the dinner dance has brought more than $14,000 to the historical society for upkeep of its holdings and the support of various projects, according to Hart. The event averages 200 patrons each year.

“It has become a spring time tradition in Greene County. Those who have attended in the past really loved it,” Hart said.

This year, the buffet will be under the direction of Alladin Food Services of Waynesburg University. Entrees will include roast beef, ham and stuffed chicken. Side dishes will include, red-skin potatoes, penne pasta with marinara sauce, vegetable blend mix and tossed salad. Desserts, and vegetable and cheese tray appetizers will also be provided. Beverages will include iced tea, coffee and water with an opportunity to purchase wine from Thistlethwaite’s Winery. Guests may also bring their own beverages.

Thistlethwaites will once again offer wine tasting throughout the evening.

The doors open at 5:45 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30. The Bop Cats will play from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. A Chinese auction, door prizes and 50/50 drawing will be held. The cost of tickets are $35 per person.
