Mt. Pleasant Township police are warning residents to be alert to the possibility of home-improvement contractor scams.
Township police Chief Lou McQuillan said Thursday that police have received reports of men going door to door in the township, offering to either pave driveways or claiming to have extra road millings for sale that they will spread on driveways.
One resident was able to get a license plate number that matches a vehicle registered in New Stanton. Police in Greensburg and in Allegheny County have received similar reports and have had contacts with the men.
McQuillan said the other police agencies have confirmed it is a scam.
“We just want our residents to be aware that currently there are no soliciting permits issued in the township,” McQuillan said Thursday. “They should notify us immediately by calling 911 if they encounter this type of activity.”
“It is springtime, and that is when the driveway, roof and home repair scams usually start,” he added. “If it looks and sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.”
McQuillan also advised residents not to allow these people into their homes.
