CARMICHAELS – A Greensboro man was charged with threatening, stalking and harassing his former girlfriend.
Cumberland Township police Officer Bryan Smith filed a criminal complaint Tuesday against John J. Kuis, Jr., 36, of 119 Upper Sandy Road.
On March 8, Smith and a fellow officer responded to a call from Amber DeBolt, Kuis’ former girlfriend, claiming he was coming to her residence at 1115 Crucible Road to allegedly to kill her. Smith spoke to DeBolt, who told him she ended her relationship with Kuis about a year ago and he has been threatening and harassing her since. Smith said Debolt showed him a text message, allegedly sent from Kuis, that reinforced her claims.
According to the complaint, while Smith was interviewing DeBolt she received a phone call from Kuis asking where she was. He then stated “she will get what is coming” and wanted to know if her new boyfriend was at the residence. DeBolt told Smith that Kuis threatened to set fire to her house.
As Smith continued speaking with DeBolt, Kuis drove by the residence, turned around and drove past a second time. Smith and Officer Scott Kanotz attempted to stop Kuis but lost sight of him.
Later that evening, Smith was informed that Kuis was at his Greensboro residence. He and Officer Kurtiss Benco went to speak with him. Kuis allegedly told the officers he was angry that morning and admitted sending DeBolt a text saying he would kill her, claiming this was just to scare her into letting him have their child.
Smith told Kuis not to contact DeBolt in any way and to stop the threats and harassment. He allegedly replied he would not contact her until he went through legal channels and spoke to an attorney about his child.
