Firefighter searching for woman killed by train

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities say a volunteer firefighter who was helping to search for a missing woman in Allegheny County has been struck and killed by a train.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Youngwood Volunteer Firefighter Edwin “Jeff” Wentzel was struck by a Norfolk Southern train around 5:45 p.m. Saturday in North Versailles, about 13 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
Wentzel was part of a search crew of volunteers and canines looking for 55-year-old Ruth Mullennix. She was last seen Monday night in nearby Wilmerding and her coat and cellphone were found Thursday in rail yard under the bridge where Wentzel was struck.
