A Monongahela man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly forced his way into the home of his ex-girlfriend after she told him to leave earlier because he was intoxicated.

Shawn Greenough, 26, of 216 Gee St., also is accused of threatening Amanda Amann at her home at 824 Marne Ave.

Amann told police the two of them had dated but broke up in January. She said they kept in touch and she invited him over for dinner. But she told police that when he showed up smelling of alcohol, she asked him to leave.

Greenough left but returned and started pounding on her door, the woman said. She told him again to leave because he was frightening her children. Greenough then allegedly kicked in the front door. Amann said hardware from the door was flying, just missing her and her two daughters, ages 5 and 9.

Amann told her daughters to run, and she picked up the telephone to call 911, police said. Greenough reportedly threw Amann’s purse at her, almost hitting her, and then broke a lamp. He then picked up a board from the broken door and started swinging, police said. He also allegedly knocked a microwave oven to the floor, breaking it, and started trashing Amann’s kitchen.

Amann and her children ran outside. Greenough also came out, knocked over patio furniture and reportedly told Amann that he was going to kill her, police said.

As police were responding, they saw a man with tattoos and wearing a black shirt running, then walking when he saw the officers. After getting a description of Greenough that matched the man police had seen on foot, officers returned to the area.

Officers spotted Greenough in the 500 block of Chess Street. They told him to stop, but he allegedly ran down several alleys and between houses. Police caught up with him on West Main Street and took him into custody. Police said Greenough told them he was angry because Amann asked him to leave.

Greenough was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on charges of criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, disoderly conduct, public drunkenness and three counts of reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 3 before District Judge Mark Wilson.
