A Mt. Pleasant township man was arrested Sunday night by state police after he allegedly refused to allow his girlfriend to leave his home with two mutual friends and then fired a shot at them as they left.

Timothy Bain, 40, of 501 Johns Ave., is accused of shooting in the direction of his girlfriend, Candis Mason, and friends Tracy Dainley and Robert Ullom as they tried to leave about 11:30 p.m.

Trooper Thomas Schuster, who filed the charges, said the four were at a party earlier.

Mason told police Bain held her in his home for 24 hours. She also claimed she was pistol-whipped several times and that he pointed a pistol at her, threatening to harm her. Police said she had bruises on her face and arms.

Dainley and Ullom went to get Mason out of the house. Bain allegedly pointed a gun at Ullom’s head and threatened to harm him. As they were leaving the house, Bain reportedly came outside and fired a shot. He racked his shotgun a second time, but there were no more shells in it, police said, noting they found a casing on a front step outside the home.

After leaving Bain’s home, Mason, Dainley and Ullom went to the McDonald police station, and state police were notified.

Bain was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on six counts of aggravated assault, three counts each of terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment, two counts of simple assault and one count of unlawful restraint. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 3 in the office of Senior District Judge Jay Dutton.
